Jones Day has strengthened its Japanese intellectual property offering with the addition of Shogo Asaji as a partner at its Tokyo office.

Asaji focuses on patent litigation, licensing and analysis in the U.S. and Japan. He represents Japanese clients in patent infringement litigation before U.S. courts and the International Trade Commission, as well as in administrative proceedings before the U.S. Patent and Trademark Office.

Asaji also acts for international companies in patent litigation before the Tokyo District Court and the Customs Office, as well as invalidation proceedings before the Japan Patent Office.

He also assists clients in the mechanical and electrical industries with their U.S. patent prosecution applications.

Prior to joining Jones Day, Asaji was a partner in Morrison & Foerster’s IP group in Tokyo.

“[Asaji’s] technical background and experience with invalidation proceedings and infringement actions will be of terrific value for both our U.S. clients doing business in Japan, as well as Japanese clients with disputes in the U.S,” said Masatomo Suzuki, head of Jones Day’s Tokyo office, in a statement.
