Shearman & Sterling has grown its Asian arbitration offering with the hire of Nils Eliasson as a partner in Hong Kong.

Eliasson joins from Swedish law firm Mannheimer Swartling’s Hong Kong office, where he headed the firm’s Asia disputes practice. He specialises in both investment treaty arbitration and international commercial arbitration, with a focus on energy, construction, real estate and telecommunications disputes.

Eliasson’s hire gives Shearman an arbitration capability in Hong Kong. The rest of the firm’s arbitration practice in Asia comprises of counsel Daryl Chew and three associates, all of whom are based in Singapore.

At the same time, Shearman has added to its international arbitration expertise with the hire of Jeremy Sharpe as a partner in London. Sharpe was formerly chief of investment arbitration in the Office of the Legal Adviser at the U.S. Department of State.

With the addition of Eliasson, Shearman now has 35 lawyers in Hong Kong, including 13 partners.
