DLA Piper has strengthened its corporate practice in Hong Kong with the hire of Goodwin Procter duo Gloria Guolai Liu and Sue Yang as a partner and of counsel, respectively.

Previously a partner in Goodwin Procter’s Hong Kong office, Liu specialises in private equity, M&A and a range of corporate work in Hong Kong, China and the US.

“We have seen an increasing amount of private equity work in Hong Kong and further afield across Asia, and Gloria's addition to the corporate team reflects our recognition of that,” said Paul Chen, DLA Piper’s Asia corporate head, in a statement.

Liu will be joined in late September by former Goodwin Procter associate Sue Yang. Yang, focuses on M&A, private equity and competition law related work.

Liu’s appointment is the latest in a string of DLA Piper partner hires across Asia. The firm recruited Melody He-Chen in Hong Kong in February, as well as John Viverito, Myles Hankin and Joe Bauerschmidt in Singapore in January.
