South Korea’s largest law firm Kim & Chang has come under the microscope for its supposed involvement in an alleged cover-up by its client, Oxy Reckitt Benckiser (RB) Korea.
A toxic humidifier disinfectant product produced by the company has so far been blamed for 221 deaths, according to a report published in South Korean media.
The controversy revolves around allegations that Oxy RB tampered with lab test results showing that its product had serious health hazards, according to a report in The Korea Times, which further claims that Kim & Chang used these doctored results for out-of-court settlement negotiations with individual victims.
The scientist involved in the alleged modifications of the results stated that he had notified both Oxy RB and Kim & Chang about the the harmfulness of the disinfectant, and claimed that the law firm attempted to influence the results of the test.
