The Singapore Ministry of Law will boost the current capacity of Maxwell Chambers by threefold as the city-state steps up its efforts to become a centre for international dispute resolution.

The expansion, expected to commence in May, is set to give the centre another 120,000 sq. ft. of floor space and help Singapore to take advantage of newer opportunities in Asia.

An integrated dispute resolution centre, Maxwell Chambers handled 212 arbitration case hearings in 2016, marking a 18 percent increase from 179 cases in 2015.

“One of Singapore’s key strengths as an international dispute resolution centre is our legal system which is neutral, stable, has high-quality jurisprudence and is trusted by businesses,” said Indranee Rajah, Singapore’s Senior Minister of State for Law.

“We will build on this and strengthen our ecosystem of laws, lawyers, institutions and infrastructure, so that we can better serve the needs of businesses and take our international dispute resolution services to the next level,” she added.
