As part of its expansion into Southeast Asia, Dentons has taken over Yangon-based boutique corporate firm Livingstons Legal, creating Dentons Myanmar.
The Myanmar team will consist of seven lawyers led by Mark Livingston, former managing director of Livingstons Legal. The new Myanmar office will work closely with Dentons Rodyk in Singapore, according to the firm’s official statement.
Livingston Legal focused on supporting Myanmar’s investment markets. Its core areas included real estate, M&A, JVs, market entry and company set-ups, corporate and commercial, corporate finance and capital markets, and Myanmar regulations and compliance.
"The economic development and democratisation of Myanmar has opened up a wealth of both inbound and outbound opportunities for our clients from within Asia and around the world," said Joe Andrew, global chairman of Dentons.
Dentons is the latest law firm to set up presence in Myanmar. In November 2016, Stephenson Harwood announced its plans to open an office in the country, ending its alliance with local outfit U Tin Yu & Associates.
