The annual The Macallan ALB Hong Kong Law Awards, the most prestigious legal awards in Asia, has announced the shortlist of finalists for the 2017 edition.

Asian Legal Business (ALB) will host a black-tie affair on Friday, September 8, at the Conrad Hong Kong to celebrate this event, now on its 16th year. Wesley Wong, Solicitor General of the Department of Justice HKSAR, will be the guest of honour that evening.

This year, ALB will hand out 46 awards that recognise the region’s top private practice firms, leading in-house teams, brightest legal stars and, most successful deals. The shortlist of finalists reflects the continued vitality of Hong Kong’s legal and business community.

Leading the pack for private practice are top-tier international firms Baker McKenzie, Deacons, and Herbert Smith Freehills. Bakers has been nominated in various firm categories, including Deal Firm of the Year and Intellectual Property of the Year, as well as several individual award categories. Deacons is vying in award categories such as Civil Litigation Law Firm of the Year and Insolvency and Restructuring Law Firm of the Year, while HSF is a finalist in several deal award categories.

This year’s in-house team categories welcome new nominees and returning contenders such as MTR Corporation, COSCO Shipping Ports, Hongkong Land, Sun Hung Kai Financial and Uber. ALB is also proud to introduce new award categories for 2017, such as Withers Award Hospitality In-House Team of the Year and Retail and Luxury Brands In-House Team of the Year.
