Seyfarth Shaw has hired corporate lawyer Raymond Wong as managing partner of its Hong Kong office from King & Wood Mallesons.

Wong, who is also a partner in the U.S.-based firm’s international practice group, focuses on M&A, general corporate and commercial strategies, IPOs, regulatory compliance, and public takeovers in Hong Kong, China and the UK.

He has represented Chinese and international clients on several landmark global offerings and listings in London, New York, Luxembourg, Hong Kong, Shanghai, and Tokyo, as well as cross-border transactions in the real estate, energy and natural resources sectors.

In March, he handled the Hong Kong listing of Canadian resource company Persta Resources. He was also involved in China Molybdenum’s $4 billion mining acquisitions last year.

Seyfarth’s Hong Kong office opened in February and has four partners based in the city, including Julia Gorham, former head of DLA Piper’s Asia employment law practice.

It operates in Hong Kong in association with Wong, Wan & Partners, a local firm that Wong set up with fellow corporate partner Wan Li in the Shanghai office. Under Hong Kong regulations, only firms that have been operating in the jurisdiction for three years can run as an independent local firm.
