Bharucha & Partners, a Mumbai-based corporate law firm, has expanded after merging with New Delhi outfit Arthe Law.

The merger will come into effect next month. The new entity will retain the name Bharucha & Partners, and have 80 lawyers, including 12 partners, across New Delhi and Mumbai. It will specialise in M&A, competition law, IP and white-collar defense.

The 12 partners include Bharucha’s senior partner MP Bharucha. However, partner Vivek Vashi is said to be leaving his former firm to launch his own practice.

Bharucha & Partners was founded in 2008 by MP Bharucha along with his wife Alka. They were both partners at the legacy Amarchand & Mangaldas and Suresh A Shroff & Co.

Arthe Law was created in April 2017 through a merger between TMT Law Practice, a New Delhi-based boutique IP and media law firm, and dispute resolution firm DPSA Legal, which was founded by lawyer DP Singh.

India’s corporate legal scene has seen a growing number of law firms merging of late. Recently, Bangalore‘s Universal Legal and Mumbai’s IC Legal merged to form IC Universal Legal Advocates & Solicitors; Link Legal India Law Services (LL-ILS) and DH Law Associates (DH Law) combined their practices in January 2017; and pan-Indian law firm HSA Advocates acquired Kolkata’s Citadel Law Chambers in December 2016.
