Reed Smith has appointed commodities specialist Daniel Perera as a partner in its energy and natural resources group in Singapore from Norton Rose Fulbright, where he was an of counsel.

Perera spent nearly 12 years with his previous firm in two stints – first as an associate with the legacy Norton Rose in London and Singapore, and then around three years just prior to his move to Reed Smith. In between, he worked in-house with BHP Biliton in Singapore.

He has experience in the commodities sector in both contentious and non-contentious matters. At BHP, he supported the company’s iron ore, coal, copper and uranium marketing businesses, and assisted with the handling of group-wide disputes.

Perera’s hiring comes a few months after Reed Smith’s Singapore office nabbed Bree Miechel head of Simmons & Simmons’ Southeast Asia construction practice, as a partner in the energy and natural resources group. 

Reed Smith opened its Singapore office in 2012, and in 2016, entered into a formal law alliance with local firm Resource Law. The firm now has 26 lawyers in Singapore, include 11 partners.
