Hong Kong firm Tanner De Witt has hired Pádraig Walsh as a corporate partner from Bird & Bird.

Walsh’s practice focuses on venture capital and related corporate work, advising on private debt and equity financings, as well as on issues emerging companies face, such as corporate structuring, IP licensing, equity incentive plans and shareholder disputes.

He is also involved in the startup scene, mentoring and providing legal training programmes for accelerator programmes, and advises companies in fintech, insurtech, regtech, and other related sectors involving technology.

Before his six year-stint at Bird & Bird, Walsh practiced with the legacy UK firm Barlow Lyde & Gilbert for 12 years before its merger with Clyde & Co in 2011, and stayed on for about half a year.

Walsh’s move from an international firm to a mid-sized local firm is rare, though both firms are of similar size in Hong Kong with about 30 lawyers. Bird & Bird and Tanner De Witt have both been contacted for comment.
