Law firm Nishimura & Asahi leads the nominations for the ALB Japan Law Awards 2018, coming in as a finalist in a whopping 35 of the categories. It is closely followed by its fellow Big Four law firms: Nagashima Ohno & Tsunematsu has 34 nominations, while Anderson Mori & Tomotsune and Mori Hamada & Matsumoto have 32 each.
Among international firms, Baker McKenzie (Gaikokuho Joint Enterprise) has the most nominations (25), followed by Clifford Chance with 23, and Morrison & Foerster with 18.
On the in-house side, the legal team of Renesas Electronics has five nominations, the most in those categories. It is followed by Schneider Electric with four, while Airbnb, IBM Japan, Inpex Corporation and Morgan Stanley are tied on three nominations each.
This year’s awards ceremony will be the fourteenth year of celebrating Japan’s legal market. ALB will announce the winners at a black-tie event on Wednesday, June 13, 2018, at The Ritz Carlton Tokyo.
The 2018 edition of the awards features a number of new categories. These are Dispute Resolution Lawyer of the Year and Foreign Lawyer of the Year among the individual categories; Manufacturing and Retail In-House Team of the Year within the in-house categories; and Healthcare and Life Sciences Law Firm of the Year, Investment Fund Law Firm of the Year, Japan Practice Foreign Law Firm of the Year, Overseas Practice Law Firm of the Year and Space Law Firm of the Year within the firm categories.
