Singapore’s bar exams are set to be more stringent from 2023, according to local media, with the practice training period also said to be increased to a year.

The reports said that Part B of the bar exam, which is taken by law graduates from both local and overseas universities, will be more stringent. Part A of the bar exam is a requirement only for law graduates from overseas universities.

Additionally, law graduates who intend to become practising lawyers will have to complete a year of practice training with a firm instead of the current six months.

For students who intend to pursue alternate careers, such as becoming in-house counsel, practice support lawyers, law academics, legal technologists and so on, a practice training contract will no longer be a pre-requisite for admission to the bar.
