A team of six lawyers, led by partners Adam Hugill and Alfred Ip, has left Hong Kong law firm Oldham, Li & Nie (OLN) to set up a new boutique named Hugill & Ip.
The firm will focus on dispute resolution, employment, business immigration, notary, corporate/commercial and private-client work. In a statement, it said it wished to “apply modern thinking to client service, utilising up-to-date technology in a contemporary office environment.”
Joining Hugill and Ip at the new firm are corporate partner Christopher Hooley - formerly head of OLN's corporate and commercial practice group - consultant Gary Wong and two associates.
Hugill, who worked in the UK in the early part of his career, joined OLN in Hong Kong for his first stint at that firm in 2008. After spending four years there, he moved to Baker McKenzie as a special counsel and returned to OLN in 2014, becoming a partner. He specialises in employment, business immigration and dispute resolution.
Meanwhile, Ip left OLN after spending more than 13 years at the firm. His areas of focus include private client, probate and trust and dispute resolution.
