Shadaan Mohammed Saipillai, formerly the head of the Chennai office at Indian law firm Phoenix Legal, and Arun Kurian Joseph, a tax litigator, have set up a boutique firm called Calibre Legal in the southern Indian city.

Besides partners Saipalli and Joseph, Calibre has two counsel and a senior associate. Phoenix Legal recently closed its Chennai office.

Saipalli has more than 16 years of experience in general corporate commercial, real estate, employment and dispute resolution. He also focuses on foreign direct investment, mergers and acquisitions and corporate governance.

Meanwhile, Jospeh focuses on direct and indirect taxation. He also has over 16 years of experience and has worked as the standing counsel for the Income Tax Department in Chennai for nearly a decade.
