Flexible-lawyer firm Lawyers On Demand (LOD) has acquired another NewLaw firm, Australia’s lexvoco, as it seeks to gain an edge in a competitive Asia-Pacific market.

UK-headquartered LOD, which acquired Australia’s AdventBalance in 2016 to expand its services in the Asia-Pacific market, is seeking to stand out in the region at a time when competition between NewLaw providers has intensified. Other key players include Axiom, Pinsent Masons’ Vario, Allen & Overy’s Peerpoint, Eversheds Sutherlands’ Agile, Herbert Smith Freehills’ ALT, and more.

Following the acquisition, the legal operations and legal technology function of lexvoco, founded in 2014, will be known as LOD Innovate across the Asia-Pacific. It will be headed by lexvoco founder and CEO, Anthony Wright

Additionally, lexvoco teams will join LOD in their combined offices of Sydney, Melbourne, Brisbane and Perth whilst adding Adelaide, Geelong and Auckland, Wellington and Christchurch in New Zealand to the LOD global network.

In 2018, LOD announced its partnership with Bowmark Capital as majority investor, giving LOD access to capital for its next stage of growth.
