Rajah & Tann has advised industrial gas company Linde on the $1.4 billion expansion of its gasification complex on Singapore’s Jurong Island as part of a gas supply deal with ExxonMobil, which was counselled by WongPartnership.

The complex on Jurong Island includes building and operating an additional four gasifiers and a 1,200-tonne-per-day air separation plant. According to the Straits Times, the project, which includes the world's only steam cracker capable of cracking crude oil, is slated to be completed by 2023. When complete, it will also be able to increase production of low-sulphur fuel to meet the International Maritime Organisation's 0.5 per cent requirement for all ships by next January.

The Rajah & Tann team was led by partners Shemane Chan, Benjamin Cheong and Chou Ching.
