Just like in previous years, the 18th edition of The Macallan ALB Hong Kong Law Awards, held on Sept. 6 at the JW Marriott Hotel, was a resounding success.
The Macallan Highland Single Malt Scotch Whisky Award Hong Kong Law Firm of the Year

The glorious night of celebration saw Herbert Smith Freehills claim the biggest titles of the night: The Macallan Highland Single Malt Scotch Whisky Award Hong Kong Law Firm of the Year, and also Managing Partner of the Year (for Justin D’Agostino).
Meanwhile, Baker McKenzie and Mayer Brown walked away with three awards apiece. Bakers’ haul included Woman Lawyer of the Year (for Mini vandePol) and Innovative Technologies Law Firm of the Year, and Mayer Brown scored wins in the insurance, real estate and TMT practice areas.
Freshfields Bruckhaus Deringer had the unique accomplishment of being named as both the Deal Firm of the Year and the International Arbitration Law Firm of the Year awards. Among other winners, Deacons, Hong Kong’s biggest law local firm, was named as the winner of Intellectual Property Law Firm of the Year, with the Restructuring and Insolvency Law Firm of the Year award going to King & Wood Mallesons. Swartz, Binnersley & Associates, a firm set up only in December last year, was named as Rising Law Firm of the Year.

FANG LIU - CLIFFORD CHANCE
In the individual categories, Dentons’ Allan Leung received the Dispute Resolution Lawyer of the Year, while Fang Liu from Clifford Chance won the Dealmaker of the Year title. The Taylor Root Award Young Lawyer of the Year was shared by David Milligan from Norton Rose Fulbright and Jennifer Ng from H.M. Chan & Co in association with Taylor Wessing.

In the In-house categories, Telstra International won the award for Innovative In-House Team of the Year and Uber Technologies walked away with the title of ACC HK Award Hong Kong In-House Team of the Year. And Michael Ting of Manulife (International) was the winner of The Macallan Highland Single Malt Scotch Whisky Award Hong Kong In-House Lawyer of the Year.
