Baker McKenzie has added FenXun Partners, its joint operation (JO) partner in China, to its international network as a Swiss verein member.

A Swiss verein is a decentralized structure under which law firms share the same brand, strategy and IP system, but keep their finances and liabilities separate from each other.

Baker McKenzie, which is structured as a Swiss verein, established its JO with FenXun in the Shanghai Free Trade Zone in 2015. In doing so, it became the first international law firm to have a JO with a domestic law firm in China.

By including FenXun in its Swiss verein structure, the U.S. firm says that relationship is being deepened. “This is a recognition of the strength and success of FenXun as well as the commitment of Baker McKenzie to China,” commented Steven Sieker, Hong Kong and China managing partner at Baker McKenzie.
