In another sign of the increasing importance of environmental, social and governance (ESG) in the legal industry, Indian law firm Dhir & Dhir Associates has launched an ESG practice.

Law firms across the Asia-Pacific region have been placing increasing emphasis on ESG in recent months. In Hong Kong, former Jones Day partner Ben McQuhae set up an ESG-focused firm called Ben McQuhae & Co last month, while Singapore’s Rajah & Tann launched a sustainability practice for ESG in January.

Dhir & Dhir’s ESG practice will be led by Sonal Verma, who joined the firm as a partner from Legasis Services. Verma focuses on due diligence, contracts, loan syndication, intellectual property rights, and M&A.

"India Inc. is now leaning seriously towards ESG related aspects as a matter of global business consciousness,” said Alok Dhir, founding and managing partnerof Dhir & Dhir, in a statement.
