U.S. law firm Goodwin Procter has hired Edwin Chan as a partner in its private equity practice in Hong Kong from Paul, Weiss, Rifkind, Wharton & Garrison, where he was counsel.

Chan’s practice focuses on private equity transactions, investment restructuring and exits, including cross-border and domestic mergers and acquisitions, joint ventures, growth capital and pre-IPO investments, PIPE, co-investments and structured and special situations investments. He has advised financial sponsors through the lifecycle of their investments in the Asian region.

Prior to joining Paul Weiss in July 2016, Chan was a managing associate at Linklaters. He started his career at Jones Day, and also had a brief stint at Goldman Sachs.

Chan’s hire is Goodwin’s first partner-level lateral in Hong Kong since the firm added life-sciences specialist Wenseng “Wendy” Pan from Sidley Austin in 2019. Goodwin now has 10 partners in Hong Kong.
