Linklaters and Japan’s Gaien Partners have advised Carrier Global on its 100-billion-yen ($870 million) acquisition of Toshiba’s 60 percent stake in the joint venture between the two countries.

Reuters reported that Toshiba’s offloading of its air conditioning business by selling its stake in Toshiba Carrier is part of an attempt by the Japanese industrial conglomerate to overcome shareholder opposition to its turnaround plan.

The Linklaters team was led by partners Derek Tong and Matthew Bland, and supported by partners Hiroya Yamazaki, Kenneth Lam, Richard Gu, Sutthipong Koohasaneh, Daniel Cousens, Julia Schönbohm, Laure de Panafieu, Marly Didizian and Christoph Barth.

Japanese law advice was provided to Carrier by Gaien partner Satoko Kuwabara.
