newsEven as the COVID-19 pandemic shook up the world, the IP landscape in the Asian region remained buoyant thanks to its agility and digital readiness. This was reflected in the best law firms for IP work, which went above and beyond when it came to servicing their clients in difficult times.

What are the ingredients to building a successful IP practice?

DR & AJU’s IP Practice Group consists of lawyers who served as judges in the IP departments within the Patent Court of Korea and lawyers and experts with technical backgrounds. As technology is not approached from merely a legal perspective, we provide legal services of precise-ness that penetrate on a deeper level, based on a thorough understanding of the technology industry in general. This allows us to maximize client satisfaction in areas where the technology issue is particularly thorny, such as patents, trade secrets, unfair competition, IT, and information and communication.

With our strategic partnership with DAE-A Intellectual Property Consulting, we are uniquely positioned to provide one-stop services, from registering exclusive rights to IP items to IP enforcement issues at pre-litigation and litigation stages.

Who have been your standout personnel in the past year in terms of IP work? Can you talk about their contributions?

Jong Seon CHOI and Jeong Eun KIM recently won a lengthy copyright infringement and claim for damages lawsuit, representing two golf course design companies against a screen golf company. The Seoul Central District Court ruled that the defendants should not use screen golf videos based on the golf course designed by the plaintiffs, and should compensate the plaintiffs for approximately KRW 2.8 billion in damages.

What are your plans to develop your IP practice in the next few years?

We will continue to develop and grow with the aim to provide the best legal services in not just the traditional technology fields but also in new technologies such as blockchains, NFTs, and healthcare
