K&L Gates has advised Indonesian national oil company Pertamina on its joint purchase with Malaysia’s Petronas of a $650 million stake in the Masela gas block in Indonesia from Shell.

As part of the deal, Pertamina bought a 20 percent stake in the block from Shell, while Petronas is expected to buy Shell's remaining 15 percent, Reuters reported.

Abadi LNG, led by Japan's Inpex, will use gas from the Masela block to produce 9.5 million metric tons per year of LNG at its peak, which will be shipped from the proposed terminal for domestic industries and overseas customers, Reuters added.

The K&L Gates team was led by partners Marius Toime and James Green.
