Investment management company PAG has hired private equity expert Tim Gardner as its group general counsel from Weil, Gotshal & Manges, where he was the Hong Kong managing partner and co-head of its Asia PE practice.

With 30 years of experience, Gardner advises on cross-border investment, including M&A, PE, and venture capital. He was selected as one of Asia’s top 15 M&A lawyers by ALB last year.

Before spending nine years at Weil, Gardner was at Latham & Watkins for eight years. Previously, he held in-house roles at Spa Capital and Goldman Sachs.

Gardner’s departure leaves Weil with five partners in Hong Kong, including Charles Ching, who splits his time between Hong Kong and Shanghai.

The U.S. firm recently shuttered its Beijing office and is said to be discussing closing its Shanghai outpost, where it has six employees, including Ching.
