Nine Yards Chambers LLC has achieved notable recognition as a finalist at the 2024 ALB Southeast Asia Law Awards. Their success is attributed to a strong core team, emphasis on advocacy, and unique approach to nurturing young talent.

Can you share the key strategies or initiatives that have contributed to Nine Yards Chambers’ recognition in multiple categories at the ALB Southeast Asia Law Awards 2024?

We have a strong core team. Having worked with each other for many years now, we are familiar with each other’s strengths. This helps us to produce consistent quality in Court and in aspects of client care.

We have a strong emphasis on advocacy. We actively support our younger lawyers to be exposed to advocacy to hone their court craft. We believe what is unique is that we sometimes have a more senior advocate preparing papers and supporting a younger advocate to take the lead in advocacy. This creates a safe space to maximise exposure for our younger colleagues.

Individually, each of our advocates take pride and ownership in the files that they are assigned to run, with the goal of steering the case towards the desired outcome. At the same time, we are not afraid to bounce ideas off one another and tap on the collective wisdom, to achieve the optimal solution for our clients in the most efficient manner.

As a finalist in the “Rising Law Firm of the Year” category, what unique challenges and opportunities has Nine Yards Chambers faced during its growth, and how have you navigated them?

As a young firm, it is sometimes a challenge to capture the attention of new clients. But we are experienced individuals respectively, with a proven track record. We believe that we have the right balance of experience and energy. Our sincerity towards our clients’ causes has proved to be invaluable. Dispute resolution process may sometimes appear to be complex and opaque, but it is grounded in logic. We take pride in being more effective communicators to our clients on why, how, and when steps need to be taken, not just the legal steps but also, the strategic steps.

What sets Nine Yards Chambers apart from other firms in the highly competitive field of Singapore litigation and dispute resolution, and how do you maintain your firm’s edge in such a dynamic legal environment?

We have a good team that is dedicated and committed to the firm’s growth and to genuinely care for our client’s cases and causes. We are also blessed with mentors and peers who regularly work with us as instructed counsel or as co-counsel, both locally and in other jurisdictions. These opportunities are invaluable, providing accelerated growth for our lawyers. The exchange of ideas keeps each of us sharp and continuously drive us to be better, so that we can provide the same quality as the larger firms whilst remaining cost-effective.
