Malaysian law firm RDS Partnership has hired veteran corporate/M&A lawyer Raphael Tay as a partner from local boutique LAW Partnership, where he headed the corporate and commercial practice.
The hire comes a few months after the firm lost three capital markets and corporate partners, including co-founder Ong Eu Jin, who left to set up Ong Eu Jin Partnership.
With a career spanning almost 40 years, Tay advises on domestic and cross-border transactions, with particular expertise in deals in the energy, healthcare, and telecommunications sectors.
In 2022, he was named as one of the ALB Asia Top 15 M&A Lawyers.
Tay joined LAW Partnership in 2021. Prior to that, he held partner positions at Lee Hishammuddin Allen & Gledhill, Chooi & Company, Tay Kuan Teck & Son, and Nordin Hamid & Co.
Founded in 2020, RDS now has 18 partners. Earlier this year, the firm added disputes partners Steven Perian KC and Vinayak Sri Ram, and corporate partner Falisa Abu Bakar, the latter from Zul Rafique & Partners.
The firm also lost two disputes partners this year - Nur Syafinaz Vani joined Zul Rafique & Partners, while more recently, Shaun Tan moved to LAW Partnership.
