Malaysian law firm Zul Rafique & Partners has bolstered its energy capabilities following the return of partner Syed Haris Syed Yahya from oil and gas major Sapura Energy, where he was senior corporate counsel.

Haris had been a Zul Rafique partner when he left to join Sapura Energy in 2019. His return marks the start of his third stint at the firm, having also been an associate there between 2006 and 2010. Haris previously also held an in-house role at trading and logistics conglomerate Sime Darby.

In a release, the firm said he possessed “end-to-end experience” in the energy sector, from bespoke contract drafting and tenders to compliance, contract management, and dispute resolution.

“His return signals our commitment to delivering top-tier legal services across key sectors like energy and oil & gas,” said Datuk Lukman Sheriff Alias, co-managing partner of Zul Rafique, in the statement.

Earlier this year, the firm added disputes partner Nur Syafinaz Vani from rival Rosli Dahlan Saravana Partnership.
