The 18th annual ALB Japan Law Awards were held Thursday, June 2, at Ritz-Carlton Tokyo, showcasing the finest achievements of the Japanese legal industry in the past year. It was the first in-person event since 2019, after the pandemic pushed the 2020 and 2021 events online.
About 160 lawyers in private practice, in-house counsel, business leaders and more attended the celebration, with awards being given out in 39 categories. Around 50 law firms and in-house teams sent in about 380 entries.
Among the big winners was Japan’s largest law firm, Nishimura & Asahi, which won awards in eight categories (not including deals). These included Dealmaker of the Year, Healthcare and Life Sciences Law Firm of the Year, International Arbitration Law Firm of the Year, Japan Intellectual Property Law Firm of the Year, Tax and Trusts Law Firm of the Year, and Japan Law Firm of the Year.
Nagashima Ohno & Tsunematsu, another of Japan’s Big Four, had a strong night as well, winning awards in seven categories. These include Banking and Financial Services Law Firm of the Year, Litigation Law Firm of the Year, Regulatory and Compliance Law Firm of the Year, Restructuring and Insolvency Law Firm of the Year and Technology, Media and Telecommunications Law Firm of the Year.
Among in-house teams, Airbnb Japan won in two categories: Innovative In-House Team of the Year, and Technology, Media, and Telecommunications In-House Team of the Year.
Meanwhile, Accenture’s Emi Takeda won two individual awards: In-House Lawyer of the Year and Woman Lawyer of the Year (In-House).

日本のトップ法務・法律事務所を顕彰 - ALBジャパン ロー・アワード
第18回ALBジャパン ロー・アワードが 、6月2日にザ・リッツ・カールトン東京で開かれ、日本のトップ法務・法律事務所を顕彰した。対面での開催は2019年以来2年ぶり。
授賞式には約160人の社外弁護士と企業法務担当者、ビジネス・リーダーなどが参加。今年は39カテゴリーに、約50の法律事務所と企業法務が応募した。
最も多い8部門（ディールを除く）で受賞したのは、日本最大の西村あさひ法律事務所で、受賞部門は「ディールメーカー・オブ・ザ・イヤー」「ヘルスケア・アンド・ライフサイエンス・ローファーム・オブ・ザ・イヤー」「国際仲裁ローファーム・オブ・ザ・イヤー」「IPローファーム・オブ・ザ・イヤー」「タックス・アンド・トラスツ・ローファーム・オブ・ザ・イヤー」「ジャパン・ローファーム・オブ・ザ・イヤー」など。
これにほぼ肩を並べるのが、同じく大手の長島・大野・常松法律事務所。「バンキング・アンド・ファイナンシャル・サービシズ・オブ・ザ・イヤー」「訴訟ローファーム・オブ・ザ・イヤー」「レギュラトリー・アンド・コンプライアンス・ローファーム・オブ・ザ・イヤー」「リストラクチャリング・アンド・インソルベンシー・ローファーム・オブ・ザ・イヤー」「テクノロジー・メディア・アンド・テレコミュニケーション・ローファーム・オブ・ザ・イヤー」など7部門で受賞した。
企業法務の中では、Airbnbジャパンが「革新的企業法務オブ・ザ・イヤー」と「テクノロジー・メディア・アンド・テレコミュニケーション企業法務オブ・ザ・イヤー」の両部門で受賞。
一方、個人の業績の顕彰としては、アクセンチュアの竹田絵美取締役執行役員法務本部長が、「企業法務弁護士オブ・ザ・イヤー」と「女性弁護士オブ・ザ・イヤー」をダブルで受賞した。
