Asian Legal Business has announced the shortlist of finalists for the 4th annual Malaysia Law Awards. The awards ceremony will welcome the brightest stars from Malaysia’s legal community at the InterContinental Kuala Lumpur on April 6, 2017.

Submissions for the ALB SE Asia Law Awards 2017 are now open. Now on its 12th year, the event will bring together the brightest and the finest law practitioners across Southeast Asia and India.

With the amount of legal work in developing economies, particularly in southeast Asia, increasing, law firms need to have the right network, client list and know-how to succeed. ALB compiles a list of firms that are making a name for themselves in Asia’s frontier economies.

The annual Asian Legal Business In-house survey gauges the mood of corporate counsel across Asia. This year, the survey fnds that even as in-house counsel continue to grow in prominence within their organisations, they are also contending with reduced resources and the effects of a slowing economy. And they are increasingly requiring more from their external counsel.

The year 2016 was an eventful one for the Asian operations of Collas Crill. In August, the offshore law firm lost its Singapore office head Marcus Hinkley, who moved to Withers KhattarWong as a special counsel. Collas Crill then hired partner Stephen Adams from Bedell Cristin, as well as senior associate Kathryn Smith; Adams now leads the Singapore office.

Asian Legal Business has begun accepting nominations for ALB Malaysia Law Awards 2017. Now in its fifth year, the event will be held on Thursday, April 6, 2017, at Kuala Lumpur.

ALB’s annual list of the largest law firms in Asia highlights the biggest in each jurisdiction, as well as those with the most lawyers across the region.
