Syed Zaid Albar, who founded Malaysian law firm Albar & Partners, has been named as the new executive chairman of the country’s Securities Commission. He replaces Tan Sri Ranjit Ajit Singh, who retired after six years in the role.

Albar has over 38 years of experience in the legal field, first working at Skrine before setting up Albar & Partners. His areas of expertise include corporate law, capital markets, sukuk, and Islamic banking. 

Albar has been a member of the panel of compensation inquiries, as well as a member of the appeals committee on Bursa Malaysia and a member of the Islamic financial law review committee at Bank Negara Malaysia.
