Ashurst has hired restructuring specialist Damien Whitehead as a partner in its finance practice in Hong Kong from White & Case, where he was a local partner and helped lead the financial restructuring and insolvency team in Asia.

Whitehead is a restructuring expert with experience in domestic and cross-border transactions. His clients include banks, investment funds and insolvency practitioners, as well as distressed corporate debtors and high-net-worth individuals.

Prior to White & Case, he was the restructuring and insolvency head for Greater China at Herbert Smith Freehills.

“Leveraging off our strong finance, funds and restructuring practices in Europe and Australia, Damien brings on board a wide range of experience and knowledge, which will significantly strengthen our pan-Asian team and build on the success we have already achieved,” James Marshall, Ashurst's practice head for restructuring, insolvency and special situations, said in a statement.

Ashurst has been bolstering its Asia-Pacific finance practice recently, having hired Diane Skapinker as a real estate partner from K&L Gates in July and Chris Redden as a project finance partner from Norton Rose Fulbright last month. Both are based in Sydney.
