Hong Kong law firm PC Woo & Co. has appointed two new managing partners: Litigator Calvin Chow (L), who returns after a one-year stint at the offshore firm Harneys, and Gary Wong, a long-standing corporate partner at the firm.

Chow, who joined Harneys from PC Woo in January last year, has over 14 years of experience in dispute resolution. His expertise includes corporate and shareholder disputes, insolvency proceedings, and regulatory matters. Prior to starting his legal career at PC Woo in 2008, Chow worked as a software engineer and a trader.

Wong has been a partner at PC Woo since 2016, and brings more than 15 years of experience in corporate transactions, including mergers and acquisitions, private and public equity offerings, and restructuring.

“We are thrilled to welcome Gary Wong and Calvin Chow aboard as managing partners,” said Lester Huang, the firm’s managing partner and co-chairman, in a statement. “Their unique perspectives and proven leadership will be invaluable in enhancing our services and addressing the needs of our clients in this dynamic environment.”

According to data from the Law Society of Hong Kong, PC Woo & Co, which is marking its 80th anniversary this year, currently has 12 partners and a total of 47 lawyers.

Chow’s return to the firm underscores a growing trend in Hong Kong, where domestic law firms are becoming increasingly proactive in recruiting experienced talent from international practices, capitalising on softer market conditions in the legal sector.

Another Hong Kong law firm, CFN Lawyers, recently welcomed Patrick Wong as a partner from U.S. firm Reed Smith.
