Huen Wong, a former Greater China managing partner at both Simmons & Simmons and Fried, Frank, Harris, Shriver & Jacobson, has launched a sole proprietorship focused on arbitration and mediation, Asian Legal Business has learnt.

The firm, which revives its earlier name of Huen Wong & Co., will also hear tax appeal cases as part of Wong’s role as chairman of Hong Kong’s Inland Revenue Review Board.

Wong had initially set up Huen Wong & Co. as the Hong Kong association firm of Fried Frank when the U.S. law firm was establishing an office in the city in 2006. He also served as a Greater China managing partner until 2010, and was a consultant thereafter. In 2015, Fried Frank closed all its Asia offices, and Wong was an of counsel at the firm from that point until recently. He spent 15 years in total at Fried Frank.

Prior to joining Fried Frank, Wong was at Simmons & Simmons for 18 years, serving as Greater China managing partner from 1997 until his departure.

A Senior Crown Counsel at the Attorney General’s Chambers and an ex-president of the Law Society of Hong Kong, Wong also has decades of public service experience, including stints with the Department of Justice, the Legislative Council of the Hong Kong SAR government, and the Competition Commission.

Wong is additionally a former chairman of the Hong Kong International Arbitration Centre and former president of the Inter-Pacific Bar Association.
