PRC law firm Han Kun Law Offices has bolstered its corporate practice in Hong Kong after hiring seasoned M&A lawyer Melody He as a partner from Ashurst.

He becomes the second lateral partner hire made by  Han Kun’s Hong Kong office in a matter of days, after it added Alex Tao from Milbank.

With over 25 years of experience, He focuses on corporate law, securities law, capital market transactions and regulatory compliance, and has practiced in both the U.S. and Hong Kong.

He joined Ashurst in 2020 after spending more than five years in DLA Piper, which she moved to in 2020 from Morrison & Foerster. Prior to that, He was a partner at the legacy Herbert Smith for six years.

In a press release, Han Kun said that He is expected to further enhance the firm's overall capabilities in providing comprehensive services to clients.

PRC firms have been expanding rapidly in Hong Kong, bolstering their ranks with lawyers at all levels from international law firms. In 2024, Han Kun hired Allen (Yilun) Zhang as a partner from A&O Shearman, and Bonnie Yung from Mayer Brown.

Han Kun now has 33 lawyers in Hong Kong.
