Malaysian law firm Halim Hong & Quek (HHQ) has established new technology practice group after hiring Ong Johnson (L) and Lo Khai Yi as partners. Lo was previously a senior associate at Naqiz & Partners, while Ong was senior group legal manager at i-Berhad.

Ong, who had been at i-Berhad since 2020, previously worked at Loi & Co. He was named Young Lawyer of the Year (In-house) at the ALB Malaysia Law Awards 2021. Meanwhile, Lo had previously worked for Rahmat Lim & Partners before joining Naqiz in 2020.

In a statement, HHQ said that the group had been “set up to collaborate closely with clients, aiding them in navigating legal, regulatory, and commercial challenges associated with technology and capitalising on the industry’s growing opportunities.”

Added Dato’ Quek Ngee Meng, managing partner of HHQ: “Given the rapid development of technology and artificial intelligence, every company is now a tech company. Therefore, the Technology sector is of utmost importance to our clients and our firm.”

HHQ was founded in the year 2000, and now has 18 partners across its offices in Kuala Lumpur, Johor, and Penang. It is the Malaysia member firm of Andersen Global, and also has an association with local firm HLP Lawyers.
