Lee & Lee, LVM Law Chambers and preeminent litigator Davinder Singh SC are representing opposing sides in a high-stakes legal battle stemming from a bitter family dispute at Singapore property giant City Developments Ltd (CDL), according to local media reports.
The dispute pits CDL's executive chairman, Kwek Leng Beng, against his son and group CEO, Sherman Kwek. LVM Law Chambers, led by Lok Vi Ming SC, is representing the chairman's faction, while Davinder Singh SC and Lee & Lee's Julian Tay are appearing for Sherman Kwek and other board members.
The elder Kwek filed court papers on Feb. 25 alleging an "attempted coup" by his son and several directors. The lawsuit seeks to overturn board resolutions and block two newly appointed directors from exercising their powers.
At the heart of the dispute are allegations of corporate governance issues and the role of Catherine Wu, a long-time adviser to the chairman, media outlets reported. The case is scheduled for a closed-door conference at Singapore's Supreme Court on March 4.
The family feud has sparked concerns about succession planning and corporate governance at one of Singapore's largest property developers, which reported a 54.7 percent decline in second-half profit for 2024, local media said.
