Andrew Bristow has joined Macpherson + Kelley’s Sydney office as a principal in the corporate and commercial group, bringing with him a team of four including special counsel Catriona Glover, senior associate Fleur Gibson and two legal secretaries. The appointments are effective from November.

M+K said it has spent the last year implementing an intensive growth strategy in its Sydney office. Bristow said that the market is very dynamic at the moment, especially for the small and medium-sized enterprises that M+K services. He expects work over the next six months to focus on restructuring, streamlining employment structures, raising capital and negotiating with lenders.

Bristow said he has already seen evidence of increased investor appetite for this sector, which he believes will play out through the first half of 2010. However, he tempered this enthusiasm with a warning that SMEs should expect some belt-tightening from the Australian banks.
