Leung Yew Kwong, former tax partner at WongPartnership and an expert in income tax, GST, stamp duty and property tax, has joined KPMG as a principal consultant.

Leung, who will focus on tax dispute resolution and advisory work, spent 28 years of his career with the Inland Revenue Authority of Singapore (IRAS) and its predecessor, the Inland Revenue Department, from 1975 to 2004. He held the concurrent posts of Chief Legal Officer and Chief Valuer prior to his departure from the IRAS. Leung joined WongPartnership in 2006.

A recipient of the Public Administration Medal (Silver) when he was in the civil service, Leung has appeared before the Income Tax Board of Review, Valuation Review Board, the High Court and the Court of Appeal in relation to tax appeals.

“To bring on board a lawyer of Yew Kwong’s calibre will help us broaden the range of expertise we can offer our clients, and I welcome him to our firm,” said Tham Sai Choy, managing partner at KPMG Singapore. “Experienced individuals like Yew Kwong are invaluable in helping our clients cut through the ever increasing complexities of evolving tax laws and regulations.” ALB
