Singapore firm Shook Lin & Bok has named corporate lawyer Azmul Haque as co-head of its India practice, as it moves to cater to growing demand for legal services related to the latter country.

Haque, who has a decade of transactional experience, was also named a partner of Shook Lin’s corporate and India practices. He was most recently a senior associate at Berwin Leighton Paisner (BLP), where he worked in its corporate finance team on a variety of matters, including cross border M&As, finance and commercial transactions involving India and Southeast Asia.

Haque works regularly both with Indian clients expanding overseas as well as regional multinationals investing in India and the Asian region across a number of sectors, including telecom, commodities and real estate.

“Azmul is an exceptional international lawyer, having both significant international transactional experience, as well as invaluable knowledge of the Indian legal market place and extensive experience of doing deals in India and for Indian clients overseas,” said Sarjit Singh Gill SC, Shook Lin & Bok senior partner, in a statement. “We are very pleased to have him on board. His addition to the India practice will help us to broaden our scope of service to clients.”

Haque has been based in Singapore since 2005, and has worked with a leading Indian firm in Mumbai before that. ALB
