Clifford Chance has poached Raymond Tong, the head of capital markets of its former joint-venture firm in Singapore WongPartnership, after working closely with Tong during its nine-year alliance.

Some high-profile equity capital market (ECM) deals Tong has worked on in collaboration with Clifford Chance include last year’s US$2bn IPO by CapitaMalls Asia – Singapore’s largest offering for 15 years.
Effective December 2010, Tong will help the Magic Circle firm build its own Singapore capital markets practice after its 2009 joint venture split and following the receipt of its own QFLP (Qualified Foreign Law Practice) licence that same year.

Tong said his move will give him greater opportunity to broaden the spread of issuers attracted to the firm and the Singapore market.

Prior to joining WongPartnership, Tong worked with Shook Lin & Bok, where he made partner in 1998.
Clifford Chance also appointed Nish Shetty, a WongPartnership dispute resolutions partner, to its Singapore office – shortly after the dissolution of its alliance with the local firm.ALB
