Abu Dhabi-based law firm Agha & Shamsi will launch a new office relocating founding partner Oliver Agha to Dubai to head up the firm’s new office – to be known as Agha & Co.

Oliver Agha, the head of DLA Piper’s Islamic and Saudi practice up till 2008, left with three DLA Piper lawyers to set up Agha & Shamsi in January 2009. Ex-DLA colleague Claire Grainger, who joined the firm at the start of 2010 as its projects and dispute resolution head, will follow Agha to the Dubai office.

The move signals a renewed focus in growing the firm’s Saudi clientele; shifting its main operations from Abu Dhabi to Dubai.

The Shariah compliant firm also established a non-exclusive alliance with Pillsbury when it launched in January 2009, the first Gulf affiliation for the US firm.

According to the firm, Agha & Shamsi has an extensive network of informal networks with other law firms both in the UAE and across multiple jurisdictions.ALB
