Ropes & Gray has promoted 10 lawyers to the partnership globally this week, including Hong Kong private equity lawyer Brian Schwarzwalder.

The Hong Kong office of the US-based firm was launched in May 2008 by two private equity partners – Alison Bomberg who relocated to Hong Kong from Massachusetts and MoFo lateral hire from Scott Jalowayski.

Currently the office has 4 partners and a total headcount of 11 lawyers.

Schwarzwalder, who is fluent in Mandarin, has practised in Hong Kong since 2004 and joined Ropes & Gray in 2008 – shortly after its launch. Significant deals he has advised on include two TPG transactions announced in October 2010 – an investment in China Vogue, and the NYSE IPO of ShangParma, its subsidiary. He also represented Bain Capital in the pending US$488m sale of Feixiang Chemicals, a transaction that was closed in June 2010.

Schwarzwalder’s practice focuses on representing private equity and venture capital firms, investment banks and strategic investors in a broad range of cross-border transactions, with a particular focus on China.ALB
