Publicly-listed oil & gas services company Clough has appointed Nabarro Singapore to its legal panel as its key Asian counsel – an appointment which is the result of partner Glen Cheng’s prior relationship with the company.

Norton Rose Australia will continue to advise on Clough’s panel as external legal counsel for onshore Australian matters whilst Nabarro will advise on matters in the South and Southeast Asian region.

The panel will be reviewed every three years.  “We interviewed rigorously with the legal team at Clough’s before securing the appointment,” Cheng said.

Projects that served to build Cheng’s relationship with the Clough group include representation on oil & gas and mining related matters in Thailand, Indonesia and offshore South China.

Cheng worked closely with Clough on these matters between 2008 -2010 as senior foreign counsel of Norton Rose Australia/Deacons. Cheng joined Nabarro six months ago to build the construction and arbitration practices of the nascent firm. “This is entirely consistent with our strategic vision and our business plan. The oil & gas services sector is in line with our principal focus on engineering & construction work. Obviously for a client such as Clough, it will involve a multi-disciplinary application both in terms of front-end and back-end work, which we are totally comfortable with,” he said.

Nabarro was granted a foreign law practice license (FLP) in September 2010 – the 73rd international law firm with a presence in Singapore.ALB
