Singapore Big Four firm Rajah & Tann has expanded its presence in the Indochina region with simultaneous office launches in Bangkok and Ho Chi Minh.
The Ho Chi Minh office has been incorporated as R&T Vietnam and its Bangkok offering is known as Rajah & Tann Bangkok. Both will have local law capabilities.
The Ho Chi Minh office is currently staffed with four lawyers while the Bangkok office will have six Thai lawyers. Both offices will be supported by lawyers from Rajah & Tann’s Singapore-based Vietnam and Thai desks.
The launch in Vietnam was marked by a ceremony, attended by Singapore Consulate-General Pong Kok Tian; president of the Ho Chi Minh Bar Association Nguyen Dan Trung and 200 guests.
The firm’s Bangkok office is its third in the Indochina region.
“I am pleased with the progress that we are making in the region, in particular with our latest practice in Bangkok,” Rajah & Tann managing partner Lee Eng Beng said. “Both Thailand and Vietnam are important part of the growth we are experiencing in ASEAN and our new offices in these countries are important additions to our service model to meet clients’ legal requirements throughout Asia.”
The firm has a total of six offices in Asia including Shanghai, Kuala Lumpur and the Laotian capitol, Vientiane, in addition to dedicated teams of Japanese, Indian, Indonesian, Vietnamese and Chinese lawyers based in Singapore.
According to the firm, revenue from regional and international work is expected to double to form 50 percent of the firm’s total revenue in the next five years. ALB
