Jones Day has advised Japan’s Mitsui Chemicals on its acquisition of dental products manufacturer Heraeus Dental from Germany’s Heraeus Holding GmbH for €450 million ($578 million).

Heraeus Dental’s business includes prosthetics and systems for teeth protection and restoration, and several other dental products.

Mitsui Chemicals’ subsidiary, Sun Medical, has been active in the dental materials business, commanding a notable presence in Japan.

Jones Day utilised the expertise of 13 of its offices on the deal. Tokyo M&A of counsel Dan Matsuda played a key role in the transaction, assisted by antitrust partner Hiromitsu Miyakawa.

The deal, which is pending regulatory approval, is expected to close late June.
