Anderson Mori & Tomotsune has added three names to its roster of lawyers: IP specialist Wataru Shimizu, who joins as a partner from Ohno & Partners’ Nagashima office; patent attorney Masahiro Moriyama, and foreign legal associate Yun Li.

Shimizu handles a wide range of IP issues including IP management, technology transfer agreements, industry-university cooperation and brand management. His most recent transactions involve clients in emerging Asian economies, including China and ASEAN countries. He also advises on general corporate matters, such as corporate governance and compliance with employment and competition laws, among others.

Moriyama’s patent specialisation covers the mechanical field and chemistry, both organic and inorganic. He has represented clients in patent matters and is an expert in patent searches as well as international and domestic patent filing and prosecution.

Nishimura & Asahi has advised Japanese telecommunication company KDDI on its 496.5 billion yen ($3.3 billion) offer to take convenience store chain Lawson private. Lawson is being represented by Anderson Mori & Tomotsune, with Nagashima Ohno & Tsunematsu guiding current shareholder Mitsubishi Corp.
