Baker McKenzie has hired Jon Cowley as a partner in its international commercial and trade practice group in Hong Kong from Nike, where he was an assistant general counsel for customs and international trade.
During his five-year stint at the sportswear giant, he was based in the Oregon head office but worked extensively in the Asia Pacific region. He advised on import and export laws and regulations in the areas of sanctions, customs, free trade agreements, export controls and anti-boycott. He also oversaw customs audits, investigations and litigation globally, and focused on improving supply chain efficiency and managing compliance risk.
Before Nike, Cowley was an associate at Bakers in Hong Kong and worked in the trade teams of Big Four firms KPMG and EY.
