Malaysian law firm LAW Partnership has expanded its dispute resolution practice with the addition of partner Shaun Tan and associate Rachel Tan, who are joining from RDS partnership.

The new hires bring expertise in construction law and alternative dispute resolution (ADR), including arbitration, adjudication, and mediation.

The announcement comes around the time LAW Partnership saw corporate head Raphael Tay move to RDS as a partner.

Shaun Tan specialises in construction disputes, resolving them through various means including court proceedings and statutory adjudication. His portfolio encompasses infrastructure projects, utilities, refineries, power plants, and motorways.

He joined RDS in 2021 after spending two years at the Myanmar offices of Singapore law firms Rajah & Tann and Allen & Gledhill. Earlier in this career, Tan was an associate at Malaysian law firms Belden Advocates & Solicitors, Tan Swee Im, Siva & Partners, and James Monteiro.

Meanwhile, Rachel Tan focuses on construction disputes and arbitration, regularly appearing as co-counsel in Malaysian Courts, mediation and arbitration proceedings.

“We are delighted to be able to attract talents like Shaun and Rachel to the team, said Brian Law, managing partner of LAW Partnership, in a statement. “Shaun's extensive experience in construction matters, both as a legal practitioner and ADR specialist, makes him a valuable advisor for our clients.”

The firm stated that the additions would strengthen its capabilities in dispute resolution and arbitration, enabling it to offer a broader range of services to clients across various sectors.

LAW Partnership, established in 2019, now has six partners. They include corporate investigations specialist Ariff Firman, who joined last year from Shahrul Hamidi & Haziq.

RDS Partnership recently also lost three partners, including co-founder Ong Eu Jin, who left to set up Ong Eu Jin Partnership. The new firm specialises in capital markets and mergers and acquisitions.
