Beijing-headquartered Yingke Law Firm has established a new office in Tokyo, Japan, marking its 48th overseas branch.

Yingke tells ALB that the Tokyo office will be led by director Wu Ting. In terms of future development, together with other segments such as tax, business visits and travel, the office will build a team of one hundred people.

Wu specializes in M&A, corporate restructuring and liquidation, foreign direct investment and intellectual property transactions between China and Japan. She was a foreign legal counsel at Nishimura & Asahi, one of the Big Four law firms in Japan, from 2001 to 2009. Prior to joining Yingke in June last year, she was a partner at Haiwen & Partners.

With the opening of the Tokyo office, Yingke said in a press release that its Japan practice will not only be able to better serve the legal needs of the original Japanese companies in China but will also be able to provide additional assistance to Chinese clients studying, working and investing in Japan, as well as conducting business there.

The new office is particularly adept at handling a wide range of legal needs in the field of Japanese commercial law, including the establishment of companies, subsidiaries, and representative offices, as well as legal advice related to the selection of model and structure; legal due diligence and preparation of transaction documents for M&A, restructuring, and equity transfer transactions between China and Japan; divestment and liquidation; legal advice and dispute resolution related to technology transfer, licensing, and trademark and copyright protection; data compliance, labour compliance, and crisis management, and dispute resolution.
